Tryout Methodology
Michiana Echo Tryouts use a very specific methodology that's sole purpose is to assure that EVERY player attending receives has honest opportunity to have their abilities evaluated at the time of the tryouts. We use evaluators from both inside and outside the Club and allow the Coach of the age group and gender being evaluated to neither evaluate players nor pick their team.
Evaluated Areas
- Physical
these are the areas that can't be coached of Speed, Quickness and Size.
- Technical
these are the cumulatively acquired skills that they bring with them in the area's of personal mechanics and first touch skill/first touch skill selection.
- Tactical
- Offensive
1 v 1 on ball skills. Their willingness and ability to attack. The role of 1st offender.
Their off ball knowledge and execution for support of the 1st offender and providing balance. The roles of 2nd and 3rd offenders.
- Defensive
1 v 1 on ball skills. Their willingness and ability to defend. The role of 1st defender.
Their off ball knowledge and execution of Coverage for the 1st defender and defensive Balance. The roles of 2nd and 3rd defenders.
- Overall
Positioning within their peer group. Are they in the Top 1/3, Middle 1/3 or Bottom 1/3 of their peer group as seen and demonstrated DURING Tryouts. Evaluators will spend the majority of their time specifically evaluating whom they consider to be in the Middle 1/3 of the player pool. This is where the cut line will fall and we want to be very confident in our selections. That completed, they then will spend the balance of their time looking at the Bottom 1/3 next and the Top 1/3 last.
Notification of results
If you are invited to join a Michiana Echo Roster, you will receive an Invitation via email or phone call. The invitation will explain the timing and method of your either accepting or declining your Roster slot and what your next steps would be. Hint. Be sure that the email address and phone number entered on your registration form can be read by someone other than the person that wrote it.
If you are not being invited to join a roster, you will receive a phone call. Period. This information will NOT be delivered other than in a personal phone call from the coach to the player.
Exception to above is IF we have enough players to form an additional team, we will attempt to do so. This includes working to identify a coach, train the coach, train the players and manage their entry into appropriate League and Tournament play using the same Player Fee's and receiving the same treatment as any other Echo Team. This would require a timely parent meeting to organize and player and parent commitment to participate.
